Ilmakylmäjäähdytysmoduulit, known in English as air-cooled chillers, are devices used to cool fluids, typically water, through the use of ambient air. These modules are a common component in various cooling systems, particularly in buildings and industrial processes where precise temperature control is required.

The fundamental principle of an air-cooled chiller involves a refrigeration cycle. A refrigerant circulates through a closed loop, absorbing heat from the fluid being cooled in an evaporator. The heated refrigerant then travels to a compressor, which increases its pressure and temperature. Subsequently, the hot, high-pressure refrigerant is cooled in a condenser, where fans blow ambient air across condenser coils, transferring heat from the refrigerant to the surrounding air. Finally, the cooled refrigerant passes through an expansion valve, reducing its pressure and temperature before returning to the evaporator to repeat the cycle.

Air-cooled chillers offer several advantages, including their relatively simple installation and lower initial cost compared to water-cooled systems. They also eliminate the need for a separate cooling tower and water supply, making them suitable for locations with limited water resources or where water treatment is a concern. However, their efficiency can be affected by ambient air temperature; performance typically decreases as outdoor temperatures rise. Maintenance involves cleaning condenser coils to ensure optimal heat transfer. They are widely employed in HVAC systems for commercial and residential buildings, data centers, manufacturing facilities, and pharmaceutical production.
