identitásszolgáltató
An identitásszolgáltató, or identity provider (IdP), is a trusted entity that creates, maintains, and manages digital identities. These entities are responsible for authenticating users and providing information about them to other parties, known as service providers (SPs). When a user attempts to access a service that relies on an IdP, the IdP verifies the user's identity, often through credentials like usernames and passwords, multi-factor authentication, or digital certificates. Once authenticated, the IdP issues a security token containing verified user attributes to the service provider. This process allows users to log in to multiple applications and services with a single set of credentials, a concept known as Single Sign-On (SSO). Examples of identity providers include major tech companies like Google and Microsoft, as well as specialized identity management solutions. They play a crucial role in modern digital ecosystems by simplifying authentication, enhancing security, and improving user experience. The information exchanged between IdPs and SPs is typically governed by security protocols such as SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) or OAuth 2.0.
