högerarmartären

The högerarmartären, meaning "right arm artery" in Swedish, is a general term referring to the major artery supplying blood to the right upper limb. Anatomically, this is the continuation of the axillary artery after it passes the lower border of the teres major muscle. Once it enters the arm, it becomes known as the brachial artery.

The brachial artery is the principal artery of the upper arm. It originates in the axilla and travels down the medial aspect of the humerus. It is a direct continuation of the axillary artery. Throughout its course in the arm, it is accompanied by the median nerve.

The brachial artery gives off several branches, including the deep brachial artery (profunda brachii artery), which supplies the posterior compartment of the arm, and the superior and inferior ulnar collateral arteries, which contribute to the blood supply of the elbow joint.

Near the elbow, the brachial artery bifurcates into its terminal branches: the radial artery and the ulnar artery. The radial artery travels down the lateral side of the forearm, while the ulnar artery runs down the medial side. These two arteries continue to supply blood to the forearm, wrist, and hand, forming important arterial arches in the hand. The pulse of the brachial artery can be palpated on the medial side of the antecubital fossa, making it a common site for blood pressure measurement.
