Hímivarsejtek, also known as sperm cells or spermatozoa, are the male gametes produced during spermatogenesis in the testes of male animals. They are microscopic and have a distinct structure designed for fertilization. A sperm cell typically consists of a head, midpiece, and tail. The head contains the nucleus, which carries the haploid set of chromosomes, and an acrosome, a cap-like structure filled with enzymes essential for penetrating the egg. The midpiece is packed with mitochondria, providing the energy needed for the tail's movement. During ejaculation, sperm are mixed with seminal fluid from the seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and bulbourethral glands to form semen, which facilitates transport and provides a nourishing and protective environment for the sperm. The ultimate purpose of hímivarsejtek is to fuse with a female gamete (egg cell or ovum) to form a zygote, initiating the development of a new organism.
