A hälsopåstående, or health claim, is a statement made on the labeling, advertising, or any other form of presentation of a foodstuff, which states or implies that a relationship exists between a foodstuff or a category of foodstuffs and health. These claims are regulated in many jurisdictions to ensure they are not misleading to consumers.

In the European Union, for instance, Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods governs the use of such statements. Health claims are generally categorized into several types, including general health claims and specific ones related to disease reduction or children's development. For a health claim to be permitted, it must be substantiated by scientific evidence that is generally accepted by the scientific community. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) plays a key role in evaluating the scientific substantiation of these claims.

Common examples of health claims might relate to the benefits of certain vitamins, minerals, or other nutrients. For instance, a claim that a food is a source of vitamin D and contributes to normal bone health would be considered a health claim. These claims are intended to inform consumers about the potential positive effects of certain foods or ingredients on their well-being. However, strict rules apply to prevent exaggerated or unsubstantiated assertions, protecting consumers from misinformation and ensuring fair competition among food businesses.
