Metallic hydrides are formed between hydrogen and transition metals or lanthanides. In these compounds, hydrogen occupies interstitial sites in the metal lattice, forming a solid solution. Examples include palladium hydride (PdH₀.6) and lanthanum nickel hydride (LaNi₅H₆). Metallic hydrides are often used in hydrogen storage and battery applications.

Hydrideistä play important roles in various chemical processes, including catalysis, hydrogen storage, and organic synthesis. They are also used in some industrial applications, such as in the production of semiconductors and as reducing agents in chemical reactions.
