The hoverloop is a conceptual transportation system that combines elements of magnetic levitation and vacuum-tube transport. Similar to hyperloop concepts, it envisions a network of sealed tubes through which passenger or cargo pods travel at high speeds. The key differentiator for the hoverloop lies in its proposed propulsion and levitation mechanism. Instead of relying solely on magnetic levitation or air bearings, hoverloop systems propose the use of ducted fans or propellers within the pods to generate both lift and forward thrust.

These ducted fans would operate within a low-pressure or near-vacuum environment inside the tubes, significantly reducing air resistance. The reduced friction and air drag would allow the pods to achieve speeds far exceeding those of conventional rail or road transport, potentially reaching hundreds of miles per hour. The system's infrastructure would consist of elevated or underground tubes, with stations designed for pod entry and exit. While the theoretical benefits include rapid transit and reduced environmental impact due to lower energy consumption at high speeds, significant engineering challenges remain. These include maintaining the low-pressure environment, ensuring pod stability and control, developing efficient and reliable ducted fan technology for vacuum conditions, and managing the immense forces generated during high-speed travel. The hoverloop remains largely in the conceptual and developmental stages, with no operational systems currently in place.
