Homöopaatiat, also known as homeopathy, is a system of alternative medicine. It was developed in the late 18th century by Samuel Hahnemann. The fundamental principle of homeopathy is "like cures like," or the law of similars. This means a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can be used in diluted form to treat similar symptoms in a sick person.

Homeopathic remedies are typically made from plant, animal, or mineral sources. These substances are prepared through a process of serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking). Dilutions are often so extreme that there is statistically no original substance left in the final product. Despite this, proponents believe the remedies retain a medicinal "energy" or "imprint" of the original substance.

Homeopathic treatments are individualized, meaning a practitioner considers the totality of a patient's symptoms, including physical, mental, and emotional aspects, to select a remedy. It is often used for a wide range of conditions, from minor ailments like colds and allergies to more chronic illnesses.

Scientific consensus, based on rigorous clinical trials and reviews, is that homeopathy is not effective beyond a placebo effect. Major scientific and medical organizations worldwide have concluded that there is no reliable scientific evidence that homeopathy is effective for any health condition. Homeopathy is not a substitute for conventional medical treatment.
