Hiperfókuszdistance, also known as hyperfocal distance, is a concept in photography that refers to the closest distance at which a lens can be focused while keeping objects at infinity acceptably sharp. When a lens is focused at the hyperfocal distance, the depth of field extends from half of the hyperfocal distance all the way to infinity. This is particularly useful in landscape photography where the photographer wants to maximize the zone of sharpness from the foreground to the background.

Calculating the hyperfocal distance depends on the focal length of the lens, the aperture being used, and the acceptable circle of confusion. A smaller circle of confusion, which is typically determined by the sensor size and desired print size, will result in a longer hyperfocal distance. Conversely, a wider aperture (smaller f-number) will also lead to a longer hyperfocal distance.

Achieving a sharp image at infinity when focused at the hyperfocal distance involves a trade-off. While objects at infinity will appear sharp, objects closer than half the hyperfocal distance will be acceptably sharp. This means that a specific point in the foreground will be the closest element that is in focus.

Many modern cameras and lenses have built-in hyperfocal distance scales, or photographers can use smartphone apps or online calculators to determine the correct focusing distance. Understanding and utilizing the hyperfocal distance can significantly improve the overall sharpness and aesthetic quality of a photograph, especially in scenarios requiring a wide depth of field.
