hindkulu

Hindkulu is a regional and ethnolinguistic group identified primarily in southern Punjab province of Pakistan and northwestern parts of Indian Punjab. The term is also related to the Brahmans of the SAME region. Historically, the term was associated with the people of ancient India known as Brhapasi or Tulus.

The Hindkulu may be associated with the Piprawa and other sites dating back to the pre-exile period of Sikh history. They are said to have connections to other tribes such as the Kshatriyas, Rajputs and other ethnic groups. Linguistic affiliations of the Hindkulu are found to be closest to those of Sanskritic religious languages like Sanskrit and pidgins spoken in ancient India.

Historically, the name Hind Kulu appears to refer to both a Sufi saint named Shah Madan, and the Malwa region. A caste called Tuls, attested by Alban also refers to the above named people, suggesting associations that could cross over various ethnic clubs back in the times. Many discussions the singular and plural tries to interpret these diverse personas.
