Hindeksiä refers to a group of indigenous Finno-Ugric peoples historically inhabiting the Volga-Kama region of Russia. The term is often used as an umbrella term encompassing several distinct groups, including the Mari, Udmurts, Mordvins (Moksha and Erzya), and Komi. These peoples share linguistic and cultural similarities, stemming from their common Finno-Ugric ancestry, but have developed unique traditions, languages, and social structures over centuries of distinct development and interaction with neighboring cultures.

Historically, the hindeksiä peoples were often agriculturalists and hunters, with a strong connection to their natural environment. Their traditional religions often featured animistic beliefs and a reverence for nature spirits.
