hidrocarbonat
Hydrocarbonat, also known as hydrogen carbonate or bicarbonate, is the name given to the chemical species containing the HCO3− anion, and to salts formed from this anion. The most common example is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), with potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3) and ammonium bicarbonate (NH4HCO3) among others. In aqueous solution, bicarbonate arises from the carbonic acid system and plays a key role in buffering.
In water, carbonic acid H2CO3 equilibrates with dissolved carbon dioxide and bicarbonate: CO2 + H2O ⇌ H2CO3 ⇌ H+
Occurrence and formation: Bicarbonates occur naturally in mineral waters, lakes, soils, and the human body as
Uses: Sodium bicarbonate is widely used as a baking soda, an antacid, a buffering agent in foods
Safety: Bicarbonates are generally low-hazard, but excessive ingestion or rapid CO2 release can cause metabolic disturbances
