Heterotsygoot is a term used in genetics to describe an individual or a genotype that has two different alleles for a particular gene. Alleles are different versions of the same gene. For example, a gene for eye color might have an allele for brown eyes and an allele for blue eyes. If an individual inherits one allele for brown eyes and one allele for blue eyes, they are said to be heterotsygoot for the eye color gene.

This is in contrast to being homotsygoot, which means having two identical alleles for a gene. An individual could be homotsygoot for the brown eye allele or homotsygoot for the blue eye allele. The presence of two different alleles in a heterotsygoot individual can lead to different expressions of the trait depending on the dominance relationship between the alleles. If one allele is dominant over the other, the trait associated with the dominant allele will be expressed. If both alleles are codominant, both traits will be expressed. If the alleles are incompletely dominant, a blended phenotype may be observed.
