Hengitysvastuksen refers to the resistance encountered during breathing. This resistance can originate from the airways within the lungs, the respiratory muscles, or the breathing apparatus used, such as a respirator. Several factors contribute to airway resistance, including the diameter of the airways, the flow rate of air, and the viscosity of the air or gas being breathed. Narrower airways, such as those seen in conditions like asthma or COPD, increase resistance. Similarly, turbulent airflow, which is more common at higher flow rates, also elevates resistance.
