In practice, it is commonly interpreted as ownership or primary possession, but it may also encode custody, lease, or access rights depending on the data model. The subject of the predicate is typically an agent such as a person or organization, while the object is a vehicle or a vehicle-like entity.

Modeling notes: In RDF or OWL, hasVehicle can be given a domain of Person (or Agent) and a range of Vehicle. An inverse property such as isOwnedBy or vehicleOf may be defined. Data warehouses may include qualifiers for ownership status, time periods, and provenance to distinguish current from historical associations. When multiple vehicles exist, hasVehicle can relate one agent to many vehicles; conversely, a vehicle may have multiple owners in certain contexts (e.g., shared vehicles).
