Hartat is a fictional coastal town in the archipelago of Lyria, within the republic of Ardentia. It lies on the southern shore of the main island and fronts the Strait of Neris. The town contains a natural harbor, low hills and limestone cliffs. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cool, wet winters.

The name Hartat is believed to derive from the Hartari language, meaning “harbor gate” or “entrance to the sea.” Some scholars propose a derivation from the surname of early settlers.

Hartat's origins date to the 12th century, when merchants established a trading post at the harbor. It developed as a maritime and fishery center, with periodic rebuilding after earthquakes and fires. In the 19th and 20th centuries it expanded infrastructure and diversified into ship repair and light manufacturing, while retaining traditional coastal industries.
