Harnsäureproduktion refers to the metabolic process by which uric acid is generated in the body. Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism. The production of uric acid primarily occurs in the liver. The enzyme xanthine oxidase plays a crucial role in this process, catalyzing the conversion of hypoxanthine and xanthine into uric acid. In healthy individuals, uric acid is then transported in the blood to the kidneys, where it is filtered and excreted from the body in urine. A small amount is also eliminated through the intestines.

If the body produces too much uric acid or the kidneys do not excrete enough, it can result in hyperuricemia, a condition characterized by elevated uric acid levels in the blood.
