Harnfunktion refers to the physiological process by which the body produces, stores, and eliminates urine. This essential bodily function is primarily managed by the urinary system, consisting of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.

The kidneys are the central organs of the urinary system. They filter waste products and excess fluid from the blood, producing urine. This filtration process involves complex mechanisms that reabsorb essential substances back into the bloodstream while concentrating waste materials.

Once produced, urine travels from the kidneys through the ureters, which are tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder. The bladder is a muscular organ that stores urine. As the bladder fills, stretch receptors send signals to the brain, creating the sensation of needing to urinate.

The final stage of the process is urination, also known as micturition. When the bladder reaches a certain capacity, or when voluntary control is exerted, the sphincter muscles relax, and the bladder muscles contract, expelling urine from the body through the urethra.
