harkintaluvuudet is a Finnish term that translates literally as “study years” and refers to the period during which a student is enrolled in a higher education program in Finland. The concept is used to track progress and to determine legal milestones such as the right to receive certain student benefits and the point at which a student may apply for the completion of an academic degree.

In the Finnish higher‑education system, most Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are designed to be completed in three to six study years, depending on the field of study and the type of university.
