Hansa is a Latinized form used in some languages to refer to the Hanseatic League, a medieval and early modern confederation of merchant towns in Northern Europe. From the 13th century into the 16th and 17th centuries, it linked cities around the Baltic and North Seas, facilitating trade in timber, fish, grain, wax and other goods. In modern usage, Hansa also appears as a proper name in various contexts. For example, FC Hansa
