hangivad

Hangivad is a grammatical form in the Estonian language. It is the third-person plural present indicative form of the verb hangima, meaning to hang or suspend something. The form indicates that the subject is plural and that the action occurs in the present. It is used when multiple subjects perform the action of hanging, such as several people hanging a painting.

Morphology: In standard Estonian, present tense forms are created by adding person- and number-specific endings to the verb stem hang-. Hangivad is therefore the 3rd person plural present form. Other present forms include hangib (3rd person singular) and hangime (1st person plural). The form agrees with the subject in number.

Usage examples: Nad hangivad pildi seinale. They hang the painting on the wall. The same form can appear with a plural subject in different contexts, for example when describing activities in a group setting.

Notes: Hangima is transitive; the object of hang can be the thing being hung, and the location is indicated with postpositions, such as seinale (on the wall). Hangivad should not be confused with passive voice or other tenses; it simply marks a present-tense, third-person plural action.
