Halogenwasserstoffsäuren is the German term for hydrohalic acids. These are a group of binary acids consisting of hydrogen and a halogen atom. The four common halogenwasserstoffsäuren are hydrofluoric acid (HF), hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydrobromic acid (HBr), and hydroiodic acid (HI). Hydrochloric acid is the most widely encountered, being a component of gastric acid.

In aqueous solution, these compounds behave as strong acids, with the exception of hydrofluoric acid, which is considered a weak acid. This difference in strength is primarily due to variations in bond strength between hydrogen and the halogen, and the stability of the resulting halide ion. The acidity generally increases down the halogen group, meaning HI is a stronger acid than HBr, which is stronger than HCl, and HF is significantly weaker.
