halh

Halh is a rural locality in the Northern Highlands region of the fictional country of Aeloria. It lies along the Halh River, at an elevation of roughly 600 meters, with terraced fields surrounding a central village core. The name Halh derives from the Halhi language and is commonly interpreted to mean "valley of mist."

Established in the 14th century by settlers from the Low Plains, Halh grew as an agricultural and market village. A small monastery and later a stone chapel served as local centers of life. The arrival of regional trade routes in the 16th century contributed to periodic prosperity, though Halh remained relatively small compared with nearby towns.

Today Halh has a population around 1,800 and forms part of the Halh District within Aeloria. Local governance is handled by a village council led by a mayor. The economy centers on agriculture—primarily barley, potatoes, and dairy—and on crafts such as pottery and weaving. Tourism has grown modestly due to scenic landscapes and nearby trails.

Halh hosts an annual Harvest Festival that features traditional music, feasting, and a market. Notable landmarks include the 15th‑century Halh Chapel and the Halh Observatory, a modest astronomical site operated by volunteers. The Halh dialect is spoken locally, with bilingual signage in Halh and the national language.

The surrounding environment is characterized by a temperate climate and hillside terraces. The Halh River provides irrigation and supports fish in streams.
