Haihtumispinta, often translated as evaporation surface, refers to the area from which a liquid can evaporate into its surrounding environment. This concept is fundamental in understanding the rate at which a substance changes from a liquid to a gaseous state. The larger the haihtumispinta, the greater the potential for evaporation, assuming other factors remain constant.

In many natural and industrial processes, maximizing or minimizing the haihtumispinta is a key design consideration. For instance, in cooling towers, a large haihtumispinta is intentionally created to enhance water evaporation and thus cool the circulating water.
