A højttalerenhed, often translated as a speaker driver or transducer, is the component within a loudspeaker system responsible for converting an electrical audio signal into sound waves. It is the fundamental sound-producing element of any speaker. The most common type of højttalerenhed is the dynamic driver, which operates using the principle of electromagnetism. Within a dynamic driver, a diaphragm is attached to a voice coil. This voice coil is suspended in a magnetic field created by a permanent magnet. When an electrical current flows through the voice coil, it generates a varying magnetic field that interacts with the permanent magnet's field, causing the voice coil to move back and forth. This movement is transferred to the diaphragm, which then vibrates and pushes air, creating the sound waves we perceive.

Højttalerenheder come in various sizes and designs, each optimized for different frequency ranges. Smaller drivers, like tweeters, are designed for high frequencies, while larger drivers, such as woofers and subwoofers, are used for low frequencies. Mid-range drivers cover the middle frequencies. Advanced speaker systems often employ multiple højttalerenheder, each dedicated to a specific frequency band, to achieve a more accurate and complete reproduction of the audio spectrum. The quality of the materials used in the diaphragm, voice coil, and magnet, as well as the precision of their assembly, significantly impacts the sound fidelity of the højttalerenhed.
