Guer is a commune located in the eastern part of France, within the Côte‑d'Or department of the Bourgogne‑Franche‑Comté region. The town covers an area of approximately 12.5 square kilometres and sits at an elevation ranging from 210 to 325 metres above sea level. As of the most recent census, the population is just over 650 residents, giving Guer a low population density typical of rural Bourgogne communities.

The economy of Guer has traditionally centred on agriculture, with a particular emphasis on viticulture and the cultivation of lilacs, the latter of which has earned the town a small regional reputation. In recent years, light manufacturing and artisanal crafts have supplemented the agricultural base, creating jobs for the younger demographic. The town is served by a single train station on the line that connects the larger nearby cities of Dijon and Beaune; this rail link supports both commuter travel and the transport of local produce to wider markets.

Historically, Guer dates back to medieval times, with the first documented mention occurring in the early 12th century. A notable landmark is the Saint‑Père church, whose Romanesque architecture includes a 14th‑century bell tower that remains a local landmark. The construction of the nearby Goutte River bridge in the 18th century facilitated increased trade and connectivity with the surrounding valleys.

Modern governance is overseen by a mayor elected to a six‑year term; the current mayor, Jean‑Luc Moreau, has focused on improving digital infrastructure and preserving the rural character of Guer whilst encouraging sustainable tourism.
