Grammatikos is a term from ancient and later Greek usage referring to a scholar of grammar and language. The word derives from Greek grammatikos, from grammē or gramma meaning a letter or written thing, with the suffix -ikos meaning belonging to or pertaining to. In English, the root gives grammar and grammarian, and the form grammatikos is often used in historical discussions of classical scholarship.

In classical Greece, a grammatikos was a professional in the educational system of the paideia. The role encompassed teaching grammar, syntax, prosody, and the interpretation of literary texts. Grammatikoi also engaged in lexicography, textual glossing, and the preparation of commentaries on authors such as Homer and other poets. Their work laid early foundations for philology and textual criticism, bridging language study with literary and rhetorical analysis.
