In China, the term gongsi (公司) is the standard word for a company or corporation, broadly covering any business organization that conducts commercial activities. The modern form of the gongsi emerged in the early 20th century as the Qing dynasty and subsequent Republic of China governments began to adopt Western corporate law models.
