Glycoinformatique, or glycoinformatics in English, is the interdisciplinary field that applies computational methods to the study of glycans, glycoproteins, and the glycome. It aims to represent, store, analyze, and model carbohydrate structures and their biological contexts, enabling integration with genomics and proteomics. The field supports data curation, algorithm development, and software tools for structure elucidation, annotation, and the simulation of glycosylation processes.

A core concern of glycoinformatique is the standardized representation of complex carbohydrate architectures. This includes machine-readable formats such as GlycoCT and WURCS, graph-based models of glycans, and ontologies and RDF-based representations (for example, GlycoRDF and related glycoinformatics vocabularies) to enable interoperable data exchange. Important databases and resources in the field include GlyTouCan, a global glycan structure repository, GlycomeDB, and UniCarb-DB, which collect and harmonize glycan data from multiple sources. Software tools and workflows cover glycan structure drawing, mass spectrometry interpretation for glycoproteomics, and workflows that integrate glycomics data with proteomics and genomics.

Applications of glycoinformatique span biomarker discovery, vaccine and therapeutic design, and the engineering of glycoproteins. It supports comparative glycobiology, systems glycobiology modeling, and the exploration of glycosylation-related disease mechanisms. Ongoing challenges include the intrinsic heterogeneity of glycosylation, data incompleteness, standardization gaps, and the need for scalable computational methods, robust data integration, and community-driven standards.
