gishtërinjtë
Gishtërinjtë are the digits at the end of a human or primate hand. Typically, humans have five on each hand, referred to as the thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, and little finger. These digits are crucial for a wide range of activities, including grasping, manipulating objects, and tactile sensation. Each finger contains several bones called phalanges, which articulate with each other and with the metacarpal bones of the palm. Muscles and tendons in the forearm and hand control the movement of the fingers, allowing for both fine motor skills and powerful grips. The skin on the fingertips is particularly sensitive due to a high concentration of nerve endings and is covered by fingernails, which protect the tips of the digits and aid in picking up small objects. In many cultures, the fingers are also used for communication through gestures and sign language.
