Gesällbrev, literally a journeyman’s certificate, is a credential awarded to a skilled craftsworker who has completed an apprenticeship in a defined craft. The certificate attests that the holder has met the required training and examinations and is authorized to practice the craft as a gesäll (journeyman) within a guild or recognized professional framework. In Sweden the term gesällbrev is commonly used; in other Nordic countries similar certificates exist under different names and arrangements.
