gazow

Gazow is a fictional city in the Verdian region, situated on the banks of the Gaz River in a temperate highland valley. The name Gazow is derived from the Gaz language word for "confluence." Gazow covers about 60 square kilometers and has a population of around 28,000 as of 2023.

Founded in the 12th century as a trading post, Gazow prospered along river trade, expanded with industry in the 19th century, and was rebuilt after destructive conflicts in the mid-20th century.

Today the economy combines agriculture (apple orchards, vineyards), light manufacturing (textiles, wood products), and services, with a small but growing tourism sector centered on its historic district. It is connected by a regional road network, has a passenger railway station, and a small regional airport.

Gazow operates under a mayor-council system within the Verdian autonomous federation. The population is predominantly Verdish-speaking, with minority dialects and immigrant communities.

Cultural life centers on the annual Gazow Festival and a historic core featuring Gazow Cathedral (12th century), the Old Mill, and the River Promenade.
