Gasztrointestinális refers to anything related to the gastrointestinal tract, also known as the digestive system. This extensive system begins with the mouth and extends through the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. Its primary function is to break down food, absorb nutrients, and eliminate waste products from the body.

The gastrointestinal tract is a complex series of organs and tissues working in coordination. Processes such as mechanical digestion, where food is physically broken down, and chemical digestion, where enzymes break down food into smaller molecules, occur within this system. Absorption of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats takes place mainly in the small intestine. The large intestine then absorbs water and electrolytes, forming feces for elimination.

Symptoms of gastrointestinal distress can include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and unexplained weight loss.
