Galvanocontact refers to the electrical connection between two or more conducting materials, typically metals, that are immersed in an electrolyte. This phenomenon is the basis of galvanic corrosion, where a more electrochemically active metal (anode) corrodes preferentially in the presence of a less active metal (cathode) and an electrolyte. The difference in electrochemical potential between the two metals drives an electrochemical cell, facilitating the flow of electrons and ions.
