Frostfritt is a term used in Swedish-speaking contexts to describe systems or components that prevent frost formation or are designed to operate despite freezing conditions. It can refer to appliances such as refrigerators and freezers with automatic defrost, as well as to outdoor plumbing fittings intended to resist freezing.

In refrigeration, frost-free (frostfritt) refrigerators and freezers use an automatic defrost system. An evaporator coil accumulates frost when cold air meets moisture; in frost-free models, periodic or continuous heating of the coil or circulating fan airflow melts the frost and allows water to drain to a condensate tray. The result is reduced manual defrosting and more even cooling, but at the cost of additional energy use and potential minor temperature or humidity variations inside the cabinet.

Outdoor frost-free taps (frostfritt utomhuskran) are designed to prevent bursting pipes in cold climates. The valve is installed inside the building or mounted on a long stem that reaches behind the exterior wall, keeping the valve and water supply away from freezing temperatures. Some include anti-siphon features to prevent backflow.

Advantages of frost-free designs include reduced maintenance, protection against pipe damage, and reliability in cold weather. Disadvantages can include higher initial cost and, for frost-free appliances, ongoing energy use, as well as the need for proper winterization and installation practices for outdoor fittings.
