frind

Frind is a fictional town and municipality in the northern highlands of the country of Eldara. It lies along the Tarn River, about 60 kilometers northwest of Eldara’s capital. The municipality covers approximately 32 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 8,400 in the mid-2010s. The name Frind is of uncertain origin; historical references date back to the 14th century, and linguists have proposed several theories about its meaning.

Frind began as a river crossing and market center in the medieval period. It developed around a routed connection linking upland villages with the river port. A small fortress stood on the hill above the town until the 17th century, after which the site was dismantled and the town expanded.

Economy and demographics: The local economy historically relied on agriculture, forestry, and small crafts. In the contemporary period, Frind has diversified into light manufacturing, retail services, and tourism, with a focus on the surrounding countryside. The population is aging slightly, with a modest growth rate and a steady influx of weekend visitors.

Culture and landmarks: Frind hosts an annual harvest festival and a weekly market in the town square. Notable landmarks include the Stone Bridge over the Tarn, the 14th-century Saint Mary Church, and the Frind Public Library, established in the late 19th century.

Governance: Frind elects a mayor and a town council. It is part of the Eldara Regional District and participates in inter-municipal councils on regional planning and transportation.
