Frekvenciaváltó is a Hungarian term that translates to "frequency converter" or "variable frequency drive (VFD)" in English. It refers to an electronic device used to control the speed of an electric motor by varying the frequency and voltage of the power supplied to it. Typically, these devices are used with AC induction motors.

The core function of a frequency converter is to alter the alternating current (AC) power from a fixed frequency source, such as the mains electricity supply, to a variable frequency and voltage output. This allows for precise control over the motor's rotational speed. By reducing the frequency, the motor spins slower, and by increasing it, the motor spins faster.
