Formareas is an informal term sometimes encountered to denote area forms in differential geometry—the differential 2-forms that encode a local area element on an oriented manifold. The standard terminology in mathematics is area form or area element, but formareas is occasionally used in informal discussions to refer to the same concept.

Mathematically, an area form on a smooth, oriented manifold assigns to each pair of tangent vectors a real number that represents the oriented area of the parallelogram spanned by those vectors. It is a nowhere-vanishing 2-form, which ensures a well-defined, orientation-dependent measure of area on the manifold. In local coordinates on a two-dimensional oriented manifold, a canonical area form is often written as ω = dx ∧ dy. If the manifold carries a Riemannian metric with metric tensor g, the corresponding area form is ω = sqrt(det g) dx ∧ dy, aligning with the metric-induced notion of area.

Area forms transform under coordinate changes by the Jacobian determinant, which guarantees that the integral of the form over a region is independent of the chosen coordinates. This property makes area forms central to integration on manifolds and to the formulation of surface and flux integrals in higher dimensions. They relate closely to the broader concept of a volume form in higher degrees.
