The head bears a pair of compound eyes and a pair of antennae, while the thorax is segmented into three parts, each bearing a pair of legs. The abdomen is segmented and typically bears a pair of cerci at the posterior end. Fissiderms are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of plant material, fungi, and small invertebrates. They are also known to be cannibalistic, preying on other fissiderms. Fissiderms play a role in the ecosystem by controlling populations of small invertebrates and by contributing to nutrient cycling through their feeding activities.
