Finansinspektionen, commonly referred to as FI, is the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. It is a government agency responsible for supervising the country's financial markets and participants to promote financial stability, market integrity, and consumer protection. Operating under the national Ministry of Finance, FI is independent in its supervisory judgments while remaining accountable to the government and Parliament. It was established in 1991 as part of a reform of financial supervision and oversees banks and credit institutions, insurance companies and pension providers, securities markets, and payment services.
