Fenylowy is an adjective used in chemistry to refer to the phenyl group or to compounds that contain a phenyl substituent. The phenyl group, denoted as C6H5–, is derived from benzene by removal of one hydrogen and serves as an aryl substituent that can be attached to various atoms or moieties in organic molecules. In Polish chemical nomenclature, fenylowa grupa (grupa fenylowa) denotes this fragment, which is typically connected by a covalent bond at one of the ring carbons. The presence of a fenyl group influences a molecule’s properties, including hydrophobicity, rigidity and sites of electrophilic substitution within the ring.

The term fenylowy is used to describe features related to phenyl groups, for example związek fenylowy, podstawnik fenylowy, fragment fenylowy. In synthesis, processes introducing a phenyl group are called fenylacja (fenylowanie). Common methods include phenylation via phenyl halides or diazonium coupling, as well as incorporation of phenyl groups during polymerization.

Fenylowe fragmenty są powszechne w chemii i przemyśle: pojawiają się w barwnikach, lekach, środkach ochrony roślin i tworzywach sztucznych takich jak polistyren, gdzie pierścień fenylowy stanowi kluczowy element strukturalny. Arystotelesowy charakter grupy fenylowej przyczynia się do stabilności aromatycznej oraz do określonych interakcji (π–π stacking, efekty hydrofobowe), kształtując reaktywność związku oraz właściwości materiałowe.
