Fehérjetargetálás, often translated as protein targeting or protein import, refers to the process by which cells direct newly synthesized proteins to their correct destinations within or outside the cell. This intricate mechanism is crucial for cellular function, ensuring that proteins perform their roles in the appropriate cellular compartments or are secreted from the cell.

The process begins in the cytoplasm where ribosomes synthesize proteins. As a protein is being translated, specific signal sequences, typically short amino acid stretches, act as molecular addresses.
