Fehérjeszyntézis, often translated as protein synthesis, is the fundamental biological process by which cells build proteins. This intricate process involves two main stages: transcription and translation. Transcription occurs in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells, where the genetic information encoded in DNA is copied into a messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule. This mRNA then travels out of the nucleus into the cytoplasm.

Translation takes place in the cytoplasm, specifically on ribosomes, which are cellular machinery responsible for protein production. Here, the sequence of codons on the mRNA molecule is read by transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules, each carrying a specific amino acid. The tRNA molecules bind to the mRNA in a sequence dictated by the genetic code, and the amino acids are linked together by peptide bonds to form a polypeptide chain. This polypeptide chain then folds into a specific three-dimensional structure, becoming a functional protein. Proteins are essential for virtually all cellular functions, acting as enzymes, structural components, signaling molecules, and much more.
