Fehéregyensúlyra refers to the Hungarian term for "white balance" in photography and videography. White balance is a fundamental setting that ensures that the colors captured by a camera are as accurate as possible, particularly the whites. In essence, it's about removing unrealistic color casts, so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in the photograph or video.

Different light sources emit light with different color temperatures, often measured in Kelvin. For example, daylight has a cooler, bluer cast, while incandescent light has a warmer, yellower cast. If the camera's white balance setting is not adjusted to compensate for the light source, the resulting image will have a color cast reflecting that source. A photo taken under incandescent light without proper white balance might appear too yellow, while one taken under daylight might appear too blue.

Cameras have automatic white balance (AWB) modes, which attempt to analyze the scene and automatically set the appropriate white balance. However, AWB can sometimes be fooled by dominant colors in a scene. For more precise control, photographers and videographers can manually set the white balance. This can be done by selecting a preset for common lighting conditions (like daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent) or by using a custom white balance. Custom white balance involves photographing a neutral object, such as a gray card or a white piece of paper, under the specific lighting conditions, and then telling the camera to consider that color as true white. This allows the camera to calculate the necessary adjustments to neutralize any color casts in subsequent shots.
