A failover mechanism is a system designed to automatically switch to a redundant or standby system, device, or network upon the failure or abnormal termination of the primary system. They are a key component of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies, aiming to ensure that operations can continue even in the face of hardware failures, software crashes, or network disruptions.
