Féknyeregbe is a Hungarian term that translates to "brake caliper" in English. A brake caliper is a critical component of a disc brake system. It houses the brake pads and the hydraulic piston(s) that press the pads against the brake rotor when the brake pedal is applied. This friction between the pads and the rotor is what slows down and stops the vehicle.

There are two main types of brake calipers: floating (or sliding) calipers and fixed calipers. Floating calipers are more common and generally less expensive. They have a single piston that pushes one brake pad against the rotor. The caliper body then slides on guide pins, allowing the opposite pad to be pressed against the rotor as well. Fixed calipers, typically found on higher-performance vehicles, have pistons on both sides of the rotor. This design offers more even pressure distribution and can provide better braking performance.

The brake caliper is connected to the vehicle's brake line, which carries hydraulic fluid from the master cylinder to the caliper. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the master cylinder generates hydraulic pressure, which is transmitted to the caliper piston(s). These pistons then actuate the brake pads, initiating the braking process. Regular inspection and maintenance of the brake caliper are essential for safe vehicle operation.
