Fékhengerek, also known as brake cylinders, are essential components in a vehicle's braking system. Their primary function is to convert the hydraulic pressure generated by the brake pedal into mechanical force that actuates the brake pads or shoes. In most automotive braking systems, there are two main types: master cylinders and wheel cylinders.

The master cylinder is the heart of the hydraulic braking system. When the driver presses the brake pedal, it pushes a piston within the master cylinder, which in turn pressurizes the brake fluid. This pressurized fluid then travels through the brake lines to the individual wheel cylinders.

Wheel cylinders are located at each wheel. They contain pistons that are forced outward by the hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder. This outward movement of the pistons pushes the brake shoes against the brake drum (in drum brake systems) or actuates the caliper pistons which press the brake pads against the brake rotor (in disc brake systems). This friction is what slows and stops the vehicle.

Proper maintenance of fékhengerek is crucial for safe braking. Leaks in the master cylinder or wheel cylinders can lead to a loss of hydraulic pressure, resulting in reduced braking effectiveness or complete brake failure. Regular inspection and replacement of worn or damaged fékhengerek are therefore recommended as part of a vehicle's routine maintenance.
