Advanced methods include supercritical fluid extraction, typically using carbon dioxide, for selective isolation of flavors, fragrances, or lipids.

Applications span food processing, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and mining. In food, extracts produce juices and edible oils. In chemistry, extraction aids analysis and purification. In mining and hydrometallurgy, solvent extraction separates metals from solutions. In computing and information technology, archive extractors unpack compressed files, and data extraction tools retrieve specific information from datasets.

Design considerations include selectivity, yield, purity, material compatibility, solvent safety, energy consumption, and waste handling. Operators must follow safety procedures for hazardous solvents and high-pressure equipment, and comply with environmental and product-regulation requirements. Extracteurs thus encompass a range of tools and methods designed to isolate or concentrate substances across multiple sectors.
