exceltab

Exceltab is the informal term for a worksheet tab in an Excel workbook. Each workbook contains one or more exceltabs, displayed as labeled tabs at the bottom of the window. A tab corresponds to a single worksheet, where data, formulas, charts, and other objects are stored. Users can navigate by clicking tabs, rename them by double-clicking, and add, delete, or move tabs via the right-click context menu or the Home tab ribbon.

Tabs can be color-coded to help visually organize related sheets. Excel provides options to show or hide sheet tabs, which affects whether the tabs are visible in the workbook window. Tabs can reference cells in other sheets by workbook references such as Sheet2!A1, enabling cross-sheet calculations.

In programming and automation, exceltabs are accessed as worksheets within a workbook. In VBA, the Worksheets collection allows creation, deletion, renaming, and reordering tabs; in newer environments such as Office Scripts, similar APIs exist to manipulate tabs programmatically.

Best practices include giving descriptive tab names, grouping related sheets, and limiting the number of tabs to maintain performance and navigability. Excessive inter-sheet referencing can complicate audits or data validation.
