etvrtak

Etvrtak is an orthographic variant of the South Slavic word četvrtak, meaning Thursday in Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. The form with an initial e appears when the letter č is unavailable or omitted in informal transcription; the standard spelling in Latin and Cyrillic alphabets is četvrtak (Четвртак). It denotes the day of the week that falls after Wednesday and before Friday.

The name derives from the Proto-Slavic ordinal for "fourth" (cf. *čьtьvrtъ), reflecting the position of the day when weeks are counted from Monday. Cognates appear across Slavic languages, for example Czech čtvrtek, Polish czwartek and Russian четверг (chetverg), all ultimately related to the numeral four.
